Polar Experience

Berlin. Oberhausen

At the heart of the exhibition is a room we built. Step inside, and the walls disappear.

POLAR EXPERIENCE is an immersive exhibition about the Arctic and Antarctic, told as an expedition rather than a lecture. It premiered at Arena Berlin in December 2025, drew more than 120.000 visitors, and opened its second edition at the OBEX in Oberhausen in May 2026.

It was developed with leading polar science, among it the Alfred-Wegener-Institut and Prof. Dr. Markus Rex, and it is the first of seven planned ClimateXtremes exhibitions about the planet's most extreme places. Cold comes first, then rain forest, and the rest. The thread never changes: fascinate people rather than lecture them, because we protect what we have learned to love.

What we built

Ice landscapes in every direction. Sound that arrives before you have named it. A polar bear filling the wall, eyes closed, entirely unbothered by the city outside. For a second, you forget where you are, and that second is the whole job.

TSC's experience design team created the 360° room at its heart: high-resolution projection, spatial audio by Studio Kreuzberg and Ali Schwarz, choreographed visuals, and interactive elements that respond to your movements. All in service of one intention. Not a fictional world, but a real one. Real research, real animals, real consequences.

The challenge

Take abstract climate data, the kind that usually lives in charts, and make it something a visitor feels in the chest. Edutainment done properly is not a compromise between science and spectacle. It is a convergence: immersive that still teaches, handing a ten-year-old and their grandparent the same real, relevant facts, and sending both out knowing something they did not before.

Climate change stops being a headline the second the ice is closing in around you. That is edutainment doing its actual job: you leave moved, and you leave knowing more.
