Introduction
How do you create an educational experience that speaks to the future, one that inspires reflection, participation, and discovery without relying on traditional formats?
That was the brief behind Magenta Moon Garden, the experiential heart of Deutsche Telekom’s Magenta Moon Campus in Berlin. Set within a striking 360 m² walkthrough installation, the garden served as a multi-sensory learning space for all ages, where visitors were encouraged to explore issues like sustainability, digital responsibility, and media literacy through immersive environments.
Our goal was to create a digital-physical world that brings together beauty and depth, encouraging visitors not just to learn, but to engage, move, and reflect.
Challenges
This wasn’t a typical exhibition. It needed to be tactile, emotional, and educational — but also safe, modular, and inclusive. Designed during the COVID-19 pandemic, the installation had to support high visitor engagement without physical contact, and remain intuitive across a broad demographic spectrum.
We also needed to blend real materials with responsive digital media in a way that felt seamless, not layered or forced. It had to feel like a single world, not a series of components.
Solution
The Magenta Moon Garden was structured around three interlinked environments: the warm and expansive Sunrise Garden, the quiet and contemplative Moon Garden, and the immersive heart of the installation, the Magenta Moon.
Each garden used a combination of architecture, scent, sound, and reactive visuals to create distinct emotional atmospheres. Visitors moved through a choreographed path that subtly guided them without ever needing signage or instruction. Interactive moments were built into the space, real-time motion tracking, generative graphics, evolving soundscapes, all designed to respond to movement and presence.
Importantly, the entire experience was designed to be no-touch, maintaining flow and immersion while protecting safety. Complementing the physical installation was a broader educational program of workshops and online content, where topics like climate awareness, anti-hate initiatives, and responsible tech use were explored through live talks and hands-on sessions.

Results
The Magenta Moon Garden successfully transformed abstract concepts into tangible experiences, fostering a deeper understanding of sustainability, digitalization, and media literacy. Visitors engaged with the installation through all their senses, seeing, smelling, touching, and even composing their own soundtracks, creating a memorable and impactful learning journey.
By seamlessly blending digital and physical elements, the installation set a new standard for immersive educational experiences, demonstrating the potential of hybrid concepts to inspire and educate in uncertain times.
