Introduction
How do you transform aviation vocational training into a real-world logistical command centre? MBO College Airport and KLM partnered with The Storytelling Company to create the iXfinity Immersive Room: a 6.5 × 6.5 m simulation hub at Schiphol that blends immersive tech with real operational scenarios.
Challenges
The goal was ambitious: simulate authentic airport environments, baggage handling, check-in desks, platform operations and cabin crew scenarios, while supporting both classroom learning and corporate training. It had to handle practical group exercises, real-time broadcasts, and require no specialist tech skills, all within an educational setting shared by over 4,200 students and professional KLM trainees.
Solution
TSC outfitted the space with an expansive 240° 8.5‑megapixel projection canvas and powerful audio-visual systems. Teachers and trainers control immersive scenarios via a user-friendly Launcher on a tablet, switching between simulated workflows like baggage logistics or cabin service. The flexible AV setup allows multimedia streams from live operations or remote classrooms to be integrated seamlessly, creating a fully embodied learning environment that merges education and corporate training.
Results
The immersive room has become the cornerstone of aviation simulation at MBO College Airport. Students and KLM staff now train in realistic, fully interactive scenarios that mirror real airport dynamics. Feedback highlights enhanced engagement, improved situational preparedness and easy adoption by educators due to the intuitive setup.
