Introduction
How do you elevate simulation-based healthcare education into an immersive, lifelike environment? Landstede MBO in Zwolle embraced immersive technology to turn standard training into powerful, experiential learning moments. The result is a dedicated Immersive Room where students train in real-world scenarios, immersed, interactive, and involved.
Challenges
The immersive classroom had a tall order: replicate emotionally intense environments, like hospital wards, nursing homes, or emergency scenarios, without risking safety or realism. It needed to support multiple students, incorporate full-room interaction, integrate seamlessly into existing curriculum workflows, and be intuitive enough for educators and students to use right away.
This required more than hardware; it demanded an educational tool that strengthens professional identity. Each space had to present real-life visuals, audio cues, and interactive elements, while remaining easy to manage and adapt.
Solution
TSC designed and delivered a 5 × 5 m immersive training room equipped with three interactive projection walls, powered by 10‑point laser-touch technology. Instructors use a tablet-based iXfinity Launcher to start and adapt experiences intuitively.
The room supports a range of simulated care environments, from hospital settings with beeping monitors and corridor dialogue, to serene nursing home lounges, to realistic outdoor scenes. Students enter the environment together, experiencing mixed-reality without headsets. Trainers, meanwhile, can tailor scenarios in real time, choose the atmosphere, adjust the complexity, or shift the location, to match learning objectives.
To ensure long-term success, educators participated in Room‑for‑Care research workshops. These sessions helped them develop content, refine teaching methods, and integrate immersive simulations into their professional routines
